President Yitzhak Herzog on Tuesday met his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, and told him that “Hamas has committed one of the worst atrocities in modern times.”
Herzog added, “If Hezbollah drags us into war, Lebanon will pay the price, we have the full right to defend ourselves.”
The French President said the Hamas attack was “a shock to the entire world, especially France.”
Regarding the release of Israeli abductees, President Herzog stressed that “there is no difference between those with only Israeli citizenship and those with dual citizenship. In the end, every Israeli is an Israeli, we want them back urgently.”
President Macron agreed that all the abductees must be released, no matter their nationality, and added, “I want you to know – you are not alone in the war against terrorism.”
Macron met families of kidnapped and missing French citizens and is expected to meet the Israeli leadership: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister Benny Gantz, and opposition leader Yair Lapid. Macron will later visit Ramallah and meet with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
