German intelligence services on Tuesday announced the discovery of an Islamist terror network made up of some 40 women in North Rhine-Westphalia, which happens to be Germany’s most densely populated state, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.

Burkhard Freier, head of the North Rhine-Westphalian Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), told the newspaper that female Islamist extremists have been growing in number, aiming to fill the gap left by their detained husbands. The exposed network follows a strict Salafist rules, Freier said, from the proper way to raising and feeding children, to stirring up the same children’s hatred against infidels.

The BfV head’s announcement followed recent reports by German media that German authorities had classified dozens of Islamist women and teens as being security risks.

Freier suggested that some of the members of the women’s network have returned from the Middle East following the decline of ISIS.
