Germany’s Ministry of Defense is likely to sign a nine-year, one billion euro deal with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Airbus to lease five Heron TP drones (UAVs) in the coming weeks, according to the Globes business news service.
German Social Democratic Party parliament member Fritz Felgentreau, responsible for defense affairs, said, “Germany needs these Israeli UAVs.”
The drones are produced by IAI in cooperation with Airbus.
The German military wants the Herons for intelligence gathering and support in its various missions around the world until a “Euro Drone” is developed with France, Italy and Spain.
