Israel and European Jewry expressed firm support Sunday for England in the wake of a vicious terrorist attack in central London on Saturday night that left seven dead and at least 48 injured, “many with life-threatening injuries,” according to British Prime Minister Theresa May.
British police shot and killed the three terrorists wearing fake suicide vests who carried out the ram-and-stabbing attack that created mass hysteria in the heart of the British capital city.
Leading off his address to a summit of West African nations on Sunday in Liberia, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “In recent hours, another terrible attack was launched on innocent people in the heart of London. We condemn it.
“We send our condolences to the British people and we pledge our commitment to fight this scourge – this scourge that knows no bounds.
“These terrorists worship death,” Netanyahu continued, in a statement clearly added on to his original address to the ECOWAS economic-diplomacy summit, and which was later posted to Twitter.
“They murder indiscriminately, but they will not frighten us. They will not terrorize us. They will only harden our resolve to defeat them. Here in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, everywhere – together, we will defeat them faster.
“London Bridge will not fall,” he declared. “Together we will vanquish terror.”
From Brussels, the head of the European Jewish Congress (EJC) also expressed the horror and sadness of European Jewry over the attack.
“Unfortunately, once again London has been hit at its very center by a barbarous and repugnant terrorist killing spree,” Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the EJC, said in a statement sent to media.
“This strike, timed for just before the general elections, was meant to cower and instill fear in a great democracy.
“However, we saw the resilience of the British people last night and we know it will continue as the government and police will do its utmost to find those behind these slayings,” he continued.
“The European Jewish Congress and the Jewish communities of Europe extend our deepest condolences to the British Government and people and pray for the welfare of those injured.”
