MK Anat Berko (Likud), last week told a forum at the 17th Winter Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) in Vienna that Iran is the “Shiite version of ISIS and the chief sponsor and perpetrator of terror and chaos in the Middle East.”
MK Berko led a delegation that included MK Yoel Hasson (Zionist Camp) and the senior diplomatic advisor to the Knesset, Shai Cohen. Some 240 parliamentarians from 53 countries, including a Palestinian Authority delegation, participated in the Winter Meeting, which took place in Vienna’s Hofburg Congress Center.
The delegation stressed Israel’s importance in the fight against the global Jihad and the need for a practical approach to the fight against terror. It held meetings with delegates from the United States, Azerbaijan, Canada, Austria, Russia, and Morocco.
The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly concluded with high-level debates on migration, terrorism, and gender issues. Also discussed were arms control, “fake news,” climate change, and the crisis in and around Ukraine.
The Parliamentarians noted the importance of developing innovative, effective and co-operative counter-terrorism measures that fully uphold human rights. Members stressed that migration poses a challenge that requires coordinated efforts to address its root causes, including the resolution of conflicts, and to combat human trafficking. On gender, parliamentarians stressed the need for both men and women to commit to gender equality.
