Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari on Tuesday called on the Security Council to take measures to stop “repeated Israeli aggressions inside Syrian territory,” and wondered aloud if what is required from Syria in order to draw the council’s attention to “the Israeli aggression on Damascus International Airport” would be a Syrian attack on “Tel Aviv Airport.”
Speaking at a UNSC session on the situation in the Middle East, al-Jaafari said the Israeli “aggression against Syria” is only made possible by the “unlimited support” provided by council permanent member states France, the UK, and the US.
Al-Jaafari then reiterated Syria’s “firm stance in supporting the Palestinian people’s right to determine their destiny and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital with guaranteeing the refugees’ right to return according to resolution 194 from 1948.”
