The Chasidic Belz dynasty was founded in the early 19th century in the town by the same name in western Ukraine, eastern Poland (depending on the year), by Rabbi Shalom Rokeach, also known as the Sar Shalom. His great grandson, Rabbi Aharon Rokeach, re-established the dynasty in Tel Aviv after the Holocaust. Today, Belz is one of the largest dynasty in Israel, with large offshoot communities in England, Brooklyn, New York, and Canada.
