Jerusalem’s Police and Municipality workers on Wednesday operated in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Isawiyeh to remove a monument erected on Tuesday night in honor of Arab terrorist Mohammed Abid.
The monument was removed at the request of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after coordination with Jerusalem’s Mayor Moshe Leon and security and enforcement officials.
The terrorist Muhammad Abid, who was affiliated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and had spent four years in prison after throwing Molotov cocktails, was killed last month after launching fireworks at close range at a police unit that was operating against criminals in Isawiyeh. The police said that the officers felt that their lives were in danger and shot Abid.
Leon stated that “maintaining public order and complying with the laws is the basis for our conduct, and we will not allow the violation of the law and the construction of unauthorized monuments, throughout the city.”
