Rabbi Yisrael Ariel was one of the soldiers who liberated the Temple Mount in the Six Day War. In a visit to the Temple Mount on Jerusalem Liberation Day, he retold his story to Jewish visitors.
He describes how Rav Tzvi Yehuda Kook arrived on an army jeep, the Jordanian soldiers were running away. The Jews then hung the Israeli flag on top of the Dome of the Rock, and then he saw thousands of Jordanian soldiers surrender, with their hands up in the air, to three or four IDF soldiers.
