Palestinian Authority sources quoted by The Jerusalem Post said the decision to release Abu Mayaleh came in response to a letter sent by the U.S. Embassy in Israel.

The Palestinian Authority security forces also attempted to detain at least three other PA businessmen who participated in the Bahrain workshop, but failed to capture them because they did not find them at home.

All were part of a delegation of 15 Palestinian Authority businessmen led by Hebron businessman turned political leader Ashraf Jabari who defied the government boycott to participate the workshop, which in large part focused on jump-starting the Palestinian Authority economy via the economic element in the Trump administration’s regional peace plan.

The Palestinian Authority government claimed the event was aimed at the “liquidation of the Palestinian cause.”

The Peace to Prosperity two-day workshop, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain, was actually held to roll out the economic portion of the Trump administration’s Middle East peace plan and discuss ways to jump-start the Palestinian Authority economy.
