Lior Tibet, 37, a Jewish teacher and granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and a PhD student at University College Dublin, on Sunday, attended a ceremony at Dublin’s Mansion House marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp. A widely shared video footage shows her being dragged forcibly on the floor by security guards while shouting “I’m Jewish, why are you removing me?”

Tibet was among several Jewish attendees protesting Irish President Michael Higgins’ inclusion in the event, given his outrageous attacks on Israel following Hamas’s October 7, 2023 atrocities, and his lament during his talk on Sunday of the “horrific loss of life” in Gaza.

Lior and four of her friends, one of them pregnant, were forcibly removed from the hall because they stood up and turned their back on Higgins when he spoke about the “thousands searching for relatives in the rubble” in Gaza.

“After what happened yesterday, I’m really worried about how this will affect my kids,” Lior told The Jewish Chronicle. “The atmosphere in Ireland is not what it used to be. When I first came here, I loved this country. But after October 7, it feels like I am having an existential crisis. It’s hard to believe it’s the same country.”
