Leading rabbis from the Chabad-Lubavitch Chassidic movement led a joyous celebration Monday evening to welcome the installation of the eighth Israeli Children’s Sefer Torah at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
Thousands of children had a part in the writing of this Torah scroll — the eighth such Sefer Torah since 1980 — through symbolic donations by loving family members and friends who gave money in the names of each.
Tens of thousands of Jews from across the State of Israel flocked to the Western Wall Plaza to join in the celebration, packing both the women’s and men’s sides of the site all the way to the entrance of the Plaza.
At one point the crowds were so intense that police were forced to stop allowing people to enter the Western Wall Plaza — there was, quite simply, no more room.
