Israeli publisher Rotem Sella tweeted on Monday: “The Social Space informed us that due to the contents of our event, they are canceling it.”
I’m in Israel to launch the Hebrew edition of IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE. The two largest book retailers ( > 70% of book sales) refuse to carry it-an unfortunate first for Israel.
I’ll speak in Tel Aviv on Sunday. We’ll make this book launch bigger than the activists ever expected. https://t.co/5wfm3QrRnP

The planned event was the launching of US author Abigail Shrier’s book, “Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters,” with the author on hand.
We looked it up on Wiki: Shrier criticizes transgender-related curricula and policies in schools. She describes parents who are distressed by their children’s transgender identification or transition. She critiques the gender-affirming model of care. She discusses trans activism and related controversies, including sex-specific privacy concerns; passing versus trans visibility; the role of celebrities in increasing trans acceptance; conflict transgender people have with lesbians and radical feminists; trans-male-to-female athletes competing against girls and women; the use of trans-inclusive language; intersectionality; and identity politics.
She advocates against medical interventions such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries that include risks and describes a transgender person who became disabled after a failed surgery. She also profiles young women who “detransitioned.”
Hamerkhav HaKhevratis (The Social Space) is an Israeli non-profit initiative that turns abandoned buildings in Tel Aviv, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Petah Tikvah, and Netanya into useful spaces for social activities. To date, they have upgraded 43 buildings, which is commendable.
Clearly, even the Social Space dedication to free speech and liberalism has its limits. The event was scheduled for Sunday, May 28 at 7:30 PM. The publisher tweeted: “Tel Aviv is a liberal city. A handful of thugs will not deter us, and we will work to hold the event in an alternative location.”
He also offered this link to read about and buy the book.
On Amazon, one reader who identified as LGBT, wrote: “To be clear at the start, I support basic human rights for all people, including people who wish to present socially as the stereotypic opposite sex, or even, as adults, alter their bodies as part of that quest. However, it is not a basic human right to force other people to deny material realities. Sex is a material reality, not a social construct. I do not support the anti-science ideology that conflates and confuses sex with personality/gender, claiming human sex (biology) is, therefore, a ‘spectrum,’ or a ‘social construct,’ or that a person’s sex at conception can later be changed — it cannot.”
The same reader added: “Many on the left either have no idea what is going on, or they are blinded by genderist ideologues who have captured the conversation with BIG MONEY support ultimately coming from the gender clinics, hormone manufacturers, and pornography empires who want all the bodies and eyeballs they can get.”
Meanwhile, Rotem Sella, the publisher, has tweeted that a new venue was found for the launch:
