It's not clear why the taxi driver left his designated lane.

Six citizens of the Palestinian Authority died Tuesday in a horrific collision on Highway 60 in Samaria, in two vehicles traveling from the direction of Givat Assaf, headed towards the city of Shechem.

An Israeli public bus was traveling from the direction of the Jewish community of Ofra at the time.

The driver of one of the vehicles, an Arab shuttle taxi, left his lane — apparently leading to the three-vehicle pileup that included the Israeli bus and a private car also driven by a Palestinian Authority citizen, but it’s not yet clear why.

The two Arab vehicles both collided with the oncoming bus, according to Israel Police.

Three children ages 7, 8, and 15 were killed in the crash, in addition to three older people, according to an Israel Police spokesperson. A 15-year-old boy was also seriously injured. The Israeli bus driver is listed in fair condition.

Police are trying to determine what caused the taxi driver to move out of his lane in the first place.
