Iranians celebrate Gaza victory over Israel, January 17, 2025.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday extended his congratulations to the terrorist group Hamas on what he described as a victory for “both the resistance and the Palestinian people.”

Iran’s official news agency Mehr reported that in a Thursday evening phone call with Khalil al-Hayya, Deputy Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau, Araghchi “commended the resilience of the Palestinian people in the face of what he called genocide and unprecedented crimes committed by Israel over the past 15 months.”

His remarks followed the announcement of a truce agreement aimed at ending Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

Araghchi lauded Hamas for compelling Israel to agree to a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal. He reaffirmed Iran’s steadfast support for the “Palestinian cause,” emphasizing his country’s “commitment to backing the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian people in their pursuit of self-determination and opposition to occupation.”

Mehr also reported that Iranians from all walks of life are holding marches across the country following Friday Prayers, to celebrate what they view as “the Palestinian resistance’s victory over the Israeli regime.”

The rallies, labeled “Victory Friday,” are taking place in towns nationwide as a gesture of solidarity with Hamas and “to mark what is perceived as a significant achievement against the Zionist regime.”

“Since the announcement of the ceasefire agreement by the Qatari officials in Doha on Thursday evening, many Muslims across the world have poured into streets to celebrate the victory of Hamas and Islamic Jihad,” Mehr reported.

The deputy commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, hailed the Hamas victory in Gaza as an example of God’s promise’ realized.

“The whole world saw the scenes of destruction in Palestine and Gaza, and their patience and resistance, and God Almighty made up for this patience and endurance by granting victory,” the IRGC general said.

“Pieces of rocks were the only weapon of the Palestinians in the past, but today they are equipped with tools and power that have astonished all the powers in the world,” he added.
