A senior official in the Hezbollah terrorist army has been assassinated in the Western Beka’a region of Lebanon, according to multiple Arab media.
Sheikh Muhammad Hammadi was shot Tuesday evening (Jan. 21) at point-blank range by an unidentified assailant in the village of Mashghara, according to the Hezbollah-linked Al Mayadeen news outlet.
Hammadi’s position and the circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear.
Israel’s ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, a Lebanese Iranian proxy, is set to expire at the start of next week, but it has already become abundantly clear that the Lebanese Armed Forces will not be able to take over complete control of southern Lebanon by that time.
As a result, Israel has notified the ceasefire management committee that its forces will remain in the region until the Lebanese army can carry out its mission to ensure that no Hezbollah forces, infrastructure or weaponry remains in southern Lebanon.
