The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Sunday reported that the number of casualties killed east of the Euphrates River is increasing, as more civilian deaths have been documented, to include 34 victim, 22 of them children.
More than 900 civilians were killed and wounded in Eastern Ghouta, as well as in the capital Damascus and its suburbs, in 12 consecutive days of aerial and ground bombardments.
The massacre was carried out by warplanes believed to be Russian, who targeted areas in al-Shafa town east of the Euphrates River. The Observatory has recorded the overall civilian casualties from a 72-hour Russian airstrikes at 66 persons, including 30 children.
The Russian air bombardments targeted an area of a camp of displaced people in the desert village of al-Syal in al-Bukamal, Deir Ezzor Province, one of the last pockets remaining under the control of ISIS west of the Euphrates.
The civilian death toll from the current Russian campaign against ISIS has thus increased to at least 987, including 392 children and women, since September 10, 2017, killed by raids carried out on Deir Ezzor city by Syrian army warplanes and helicopters as well as Russian warplanes. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also recorded 2,540 civilians injured, some of them with amputated limbs and permanent disabilities. A considerable number of civilians are missing.
