Israeli warplanes attacked weapons depots belonging to the Syrian regime early Wednesday morning in response to rocket fire late Tuesday night aimed at the southern Golan Heights from Syrian territory.

Red Alert sirens were activated in the communities of Haspin and Ramat Magshimim at around 9:40 pm.

More than 20 Israeli bombing runs were aimed in response, at the villages of Tel al-Sha’ar, Tel Elmal, Tel a-Shaham, and Sasa, as well as the Syrian Brigade 121 headquarters in Kanaker, the Brigade 90 headquarters and the 175th Infantry Regiment headquarters in Azra, ShamS reported. All the targets were in southern Syria.

Israeli artillery fire was also aimed at the village of Doayiah in western Dara’a, according to a report by the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya network.

Two separate terrorist organizations claimed responsibility for the rocket fire: the Islamic Resistance Front in Syria and the ‘Martyr Muhammad Deif Brigades.’ The latter organization is named for the head of the Hamas ‘Al Qassam’ military wing who was assassinated by Israel last year in Gaza.

On Wednesday, an Israeli military drone targeted missile depots belonging to the Syrian Air Defense Battalion west of Hama Military Airport, ShamS reported. The strike triggered massive, secondary explosions with exploding rockets seen emerging from the warehouse in footage on social media.

“The Syrian regime is responsible for the current situation in Syria and will continue to bear the consequences as long as hostile activity continues from its territory,” Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement following the initial airstrikes.

“The full response will come soon. We will not allow a return to the reality of October 7,” Katz added.
