Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara were in the northern Golan Heights on Wednesday night when a mortar was fired at northern Israel from the Syrian side of the border.
“We are here celebrating the 40th anniversary of Katzrin, the capital of the Golan Heights,” Netanyahu said in remarks sent to media after the IDF retaliated in response to the attack.
“I said that we will not tolerate spillover and that we will respond to every firing,” he noted. “During my speech, shells from the Syrian side landed in our territory, and the IDF has already struck back.
“Whoever attacks us – we will attack him. This is our policy and we will continue with it.”
The IDF did indeed retaliate in record time, hitting the Syrian military position responsible for the attack.
