Unidentified attackers using UAVs launched an air strike Sunday evening targeting the Russian Khmeimim air base at Latakia in Syria.
Aerial defense systems successfully blocked the attack and the military installation suffered no damage, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
“Rebels tried to attack Khmeimim Air Base with drones on January 19. The air defenses in the base destroyed the targets. No damage was caused,” the ministry said in a statement.
Three small drones participated in the attack, approaching the base from the northeast at nightfall, the ministry added.
