In response, Knesset Bayit Yehudi faction Chairwoman and member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee MK Shuli Mualem said we should neutralize terrorists who try to carry out attacks, not neutralize police officers who are carrying out their work, Srugim reported.
“The decision to investigate the policeman who shot the terrorist is a folly that could deter security forces from acting to thwart terrorist attacks,” Mualem stated. “Our security situation is complex enough as it is, rife with errors of judgment. More than once our security forces have fired accidentally at a policeman or a civilian. We must not create a situation in which security forces would be afraid to act for concern that they would be hauled in for questioning.”
The event in question happened on November 23, when an Arab man, 70, was stabbed by two teen female terrorists, who used a pair of scissors. One of the terrorists was eliminated and the other was critically wounded by a passing police explosives sapper. Immediately after the incident, Police District Commander Moshe (Chico) Adri praised the sapper, saying “the rapid and professional response of the sapper stopped the event and prevent further harm to innocent people. Jerusalem police continues the expansion of its forces in the capital, which, along with the alertness and operational readiness of the officers, are showing their results on the ground.”
And then the same officers are picked up for questioning by Internal Affairs.
