Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who issued a bold statement in support of construction of the E1 area next to Maale Adumim has now backtracked.
Immediately following the successful bid for non-member observer state status at the United Nations, Netanyahu announced Israel’s plans to develop the area, which has remained in the waiting stages for years due to international disapproval of building for Jews in the area.
A report in Ynet indicated that the planning stage of E1 is completed and is just awaiting authorization by the Prime Minister’s office – yet the instructions from the Prime Minister’s office to the civil administration are not forthcoming.
While the prime minister’s office has not denied that is delaying construction, it says it will continue to promote the E1 plan.
