Public Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) has asked Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh to convene the police decorations committee as soon as possible to discuss awarding of the medal for civilian valor to the late Ari Fuld HY’D, Yedioth Aharonoth reported Thursday morning.
The medal will be awarded to Fuld posthumously for his courage and heroism when he saved the lives of civilians while fighting a terrorist who had stabbed him to death in a terror attack at Gush Etzion junction on September 16.
The owner of a falafel stand near the scene of Fuld’s stabbing told reporters that Fuld’s heroism had saved her life and prevented an even greater tragedy.
In the videos from the scene of the attack, the heroism of the murdered Fuld is seen clearly, as he gives chase—having sustained mortal wounds—and shooting the terrorist before he, Fuld, finally collapses.
The Medal of Valor is the highest decoration the Public Security Minister is entitled to grant for an act of supreme heroism with the utmost trepidation. In November, an awards ceremony will be held by the Public Security Minister and the Commissioner, recognizing the courage and heroism of police officers and civilians in their struggle against terrorism over the past three years. The minister directed the police commissioner to convene the decorations committee as soon as possible, with the aim of awarding the medal to Ari Fuld at the upcoming festive ceremony.
