The Almagor terror victims organization on Monday demanded the death penalty for Zakaria Zubeidi, a senior terrorists in Judea and Samaria who released under the 2007 “fugitives agreement.” The agreement was based on an explicit commitment by the released terrorists not to engage in violent and illegal activity and to abandon the terrorist cells to which they belonged.
According to the Shin Bet, Zubeidi brazenly and violently violated this commitment and was involved in carrying out several shooting attacks. (See: Israel Indicts Serial Drive-By Shooters, One an Israeli Lawyer, the Other PA Official)
Almagor chairman Meir Indor said on Monday that Zubeidi is accused of shooting attacks against Israeli civilians: “The master murderer did not pay for his past murders, and became a darling of the media, talking peace while using his position to carry out acts of terrorism, under an agreement that was born in sin and ended with more murders.”
“The time has come to apply against him the death penalty which is set in the military law,” Indor demanded, with the support of Almagor leaders Dr. Aryeh Bachrach and Yossi Zur.
Almagor contends that ” Zakaria Zubeidi’s hands are stained with a lot of Jewish blood – as a result of the agreement signed under the sponsorship of the Palestinian Authority which turned him into its senior employee.”
According to Almagor, “the legal and security echelons must also do a soul-searching. Instead of hanging him, they gave him free movement and access to media interviews, to talk about peace. Many Israelis who were victims of terror are prepared to avenge the death of of his victims and then talk about peace.”
“Zubeidi should receive the death penalty as is the case in the United States,” Indor said, arguing the murderer “has vicarious responsibility as head of a terrorist organization.”
