Candidate for leadership of Labor party MK Amir Peretz

MK Amir Peretz has become the new chairman of the Labor Party after winning 47 percent of the party’s primary vote on Tuesday.

Peretz will lead the party in the upcoming national “redo” elections this September 17th.
He resigned from the party prior to the elections for the 19th Knesset in order to run as a candidate with the party led by Tzipi Livni, but returned to the Labor Party in the next Knesset cycle.

This is not the first time Peretz has served as Labor Party chairman; Peretz has also served as defense minister in the government cabinet of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
