A procession of an estimated 150 Arabs from the village of Madama commemorating “Land Day” deteriorated into a riot as the marchers began climbing towards the community of Yitzhar in central Samaria and throwing rocks.
Security forces that were rushed to the area to bar the rioters from entering the Jewish community employed riot dispersing means, injuring one Arab with a rubber bullet. Some rioters threw gas canisters back at the soldiers.
Only a week ago Arabs carried out a provocative “agricultural ploughing” at the very same spot, in unclaimed fields outside Yitzhar, using the event to tear up dozens of olive trees in the community’s grove.
