At least two Israelis were seriously wounded Monday night in clashes with their Palestinian Authority Arab neighbors in the terror village of Al Funduq near the Jewish community of Ramat Gilad, in Samaria. The injuries may have been caused by friendly fire from Israeli forces attempting to bring the clashes under control.
The injuries did not result from a terrorist attack.
According to the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical service, EMTs and paramedics were treating two people around 20 years old.
The Israelis might have had their faces covered, according to local sources.
One of the victims was reported to be in critical condition, the second in serious condition. One was taken to Beilinson Medical Center in Petach Tikvah, the other was taken to Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba.
The IDF said its soldiers and Israeli Border Police forces were dispatched a short time earlier to Al Funduq in response to reports of riots in the area.
Hatzalah Without Borders confirmed that Jewish and Arab residents were clashing in the village. Fires were started in the village as well, according to the report.
Al Funduq is very close to Ramat Gilad. A number of terror attacks have recently originated from Al Funduq, include an attack a few weeks ago which left three Israelis dead.
According to Liran Atias, a spokesperson for the Samaria and Jordan Valley Fire Station, “In the last hour, firefighters from the Samaria Regional Station have been working at several fire locations in the area of the village of Al Funduq and Highway 55. The firefighters are divided into several work sectors, and are under the protection of security forces.”
