A combined Intelligence and operational effort by the Shabac (General Security Service), the IDF, and Israel Police has led to the capture and arrest of a terrorist cell in Fahme, near Jenin, in Samaria, as well as the seizing of several weapons. One of the seized weapons, a sub-machine gun, was found in a storage bin above a child’s bed.
Throughout the month of April 2017, there have been several shooting incidents aimed at Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers in the area of Jenin, Shechem, and Tulkarm. The incidents did not result in loss of life, but there was damage to property.
A Shabac investigation revealed that the terror cell behind the shootings was made up of a few residents of Fahme, including the cousins Ahmed Shafiq Za’abneh, 34, an attorney identified with the NFLP, and Shafiq Mahmoud Shafiq Za’abneh, 26.
Their interrogation revealed that their cell had fired shots at several Israeli communities in Samaria, including Shaked, Hermesh and Shavei Shomron. They also shot at motor vehicles.
One of the cell members confessed that, expecting to be killed by Israeli forces, he had prepared a will which he kept at home.
