Terrorist Marwan Barghouti to Run Against Abbas from Prison

Terrorist Marwan Barghouti is planning to run against Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, should an election be held, Barghouti’s wife told reporters.

Last Saturday, PA peace negotiator Saeb Erekat, who is the new secretary-general of the PLO, told Deutsche Welle that he would support Barghouti in a campaign against Abbas. Erekat told the German radio network that he does not plan to run for the Palestinian Authority presidency himself.

Barghouti has been in Israeli prison since 2004, when he was sentenced to five life terms for five murders of Jews, and 40 additional years for attempted murder. But should he win an election, Israel might just let him out.
