Special force Duvdevan unit arrests the terrorist who murdered Ronen Lubarsky

The terrorist who dropped a marble slab on to IDF Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky, age 20 during an arrest operation in Samaria – killing him – has been convicted of murder.

Islam Yousef Abu Hamid, age 32, is a seasoned Hamas terrorist, and a five-year veteran of the Israeli prison system.

Lubarsky was a member of the elite Duvdevan special operations unit when Hamid – also known as Islam Naji – dropped a marble slab out a third floor window of the house his unit was about to enter during the operation.

Naji also allegedly tried to wipe off his fingerprints from the marble blocks that were dropped on the soldiers – an act he was later charged with as well: tampering with evidence at the crime scene.

The unit was operating in al-Am’ari, near the Palestinian Authority capital city of Ramallah when Lubarsky was hit by the block. He was rushed to a hospital, but later died of his wounds.

Naji was arrested last July and indicted for Lubarsky’s death. According to the court papers, the terrorist killed the soldier in revenge for the arrest of one of his brothers.

Within three months of indictment, a demolition order was issued for the family home – all four stories of the structure. The family appealed the order, as does every family, but by December 2018, the order was upheld in court – noting the family had rebuilt, against orders, on the site of a prior demolition following an attack by Naji’s brother.

In December 2018, Naji’s family home was demolished, finally, a second time.
