A Nigerian man shouting “Allahu Akbar” stabbed two Danish journalists in Gabon, as revenge for the United States’ recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The report also noted that the two journalists work for the National Geographic channel.
Gabon’s Minister of presidential affairs and national defense Etienne Kabinda Makaga told local TV that the attacker, 53, “acted in retaliation for US attacks against Muslims and America’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.”
According to Reuters, Makaga stated that “a judicial investigation was immediately opened at the public prosecutor’s office of Libreville to establish if the acts of the aggressor were isolated or a conspiracy.”
The attack was not classified as an act of terror, but, true to Makaga’s promise, Gabon police arrested dozens of people who had been at the market place where the attack had taken place.
