The executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Malcolm Hoenlein, 73, is stepping down.
Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Chairman Stephen Greenberg on Monday sent out an email on Monday, saying, “While Malcolm continues to be a uniquely vital and energetic leader, and an irreplaceable asset, he felt that a transition process should be put in place.”
Greenberg explained that “specifically, Malcolm will continue to serve the Conference as he has so effectively for more than three decades, as we seek an executive to assume responsibility for the Conference’s ongoing operations and activities. Malcolm will then focus on external relations as well as plans to structure the Conference for the years ahead.”
Hoenlein is associated with many communal, educational and civic organizations including the Council on Foreign Relations, America-Israel Chamber of Commerce, the Uzbekistan-US Chamber, the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, Sha’arey Tzedek Medical Center, the Fairness Project and One Family.
He is chairman of America’s Voices in Israel and co-chair of Sharing for Life. He serves on the Board of Directors or Advisory Board of several companies, including Bank Leumi USA. He is also the Director of Keryx Biopharmaceuticals since 2001.
Hoenlein was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the honorary delegation that accompanied him to Jerusalem for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, May 2008.
