Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed Israel’s appreciation for the “abiding commitment” of the U.S. and President Donald Trump to the security of the State of Israel, as expressed Monday (July 16) at the joint news conference held by Trump and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin following their historic summit in Helsinki.
Trump expressed America’s enduring commitment to Israel’s safety, and said both he and Putin had spoken with Netanyahu about the situation in Syria “having to do with the safety of Israel… So in that respect we absolutely would like to work in order to help Israel,” Trump said, “and Israel will be working with us.”
“The friendship between Israel and the U.S. has never been stronger,” Netanyahu said in response, in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s media adviser.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu also very much appreciates the security coordination between Israel and Russia, and the clear position expressed by President Putin regarding the need to uphold the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement between Israel and Syria,” the statement read.
