Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with President Donald Trump Feb. 3 to Feb. 5 in Washington, depending upon his health situation, the Walla News outlet reports, citing Israeli officials.
The prime minister is scheduled to depart Israel for the US on Saturday evening following the conclusion of Shabbat.
The trip was confirmed Monday, one day after an Israeli source confirmed the Trump Administration’s release on a shipment of MK-84 2,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs that had long been frozen by the Biden Administration.
The meeting was planned to take place some time ago – Netanyahu was invited to attend Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20 – but was postponed several times due to his medical condition and the start of testimony in the corruption trial he faces.
Netanyahu’s surgery to remove his prostate on December 29 was followed by an infection that further complicated his recovery from the operation.
The unwillingness of the prosecution to make accommodations for the 75-year-old prime minister, despite his medical condition, has further impacted Netanyahu’s schedule.
The prime minister is required to provide testimony in the corruption trial he faces, and the prosecution opposes a request by the defense to limit the number of days per week that Netanyahu must appear in court.
