Jews on the move at New York’s JFK International Airport starting this weekend won’t have to miss lighting the Hanukkah menorah on any of the eight nights of the Festival of Lights.
Beginning this Sunday night, there will be sufganiot (jelly-filled doughuts), dreidels and menorah-lighting each of the eight nights of the Hanukkah holiday at the airport with Chabad of the Airport, in Terminal 4, the Departure Level, End of Row 6 at Check-in.
“Last year we averaged 125 Jews lighting the menorah at our booth each evening of Hanukah,” said Rabbi Yosef Rapp, Executive Director at Chabad of the Airport, in an interview Wednesday night with JewishPress.com. “They came from all walks of life.
“This year with an increase in the amount of airlines we are working, and with tremendous cooperation from all stakeholders (Terminal 4, TSA, El Al, and the Port Authority) we anticipate doubling the amount of passengers we serve,” Rapp said. “We are also expanding the activities we do at other airports and airline offices, etc.
“Women and girls are welcome to light at our stand. We encourage all Jewish travelers to take advantage of the many resources we list on our website and to email us with any questions that they may have.”
