The National Basketball Association congratulated Yeshiva University’s men’s basketball team on Monday for its winning streak of 50 consecutive victories – the longest active winning streak in the history of men’s college basketball.

The nationally ranked No. 1 team held off a late comeback attempt by New Jersey City University last Wednesday evening, hanging on to the win by a score of 93-86 at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.

The Yeshiva Maccabees remain undefeated this year at 14-0.

Leading the way for the team was senior Ryan Turell, who led all scorers with 41 points, shooting 17 for 25 from the field, grabbing six rebounds and handing out three assists.

Junior Ofek Reef netted 20 points, brought down six board, distributed three assists and forced a pair of steals.

Graduate student Gabriel Leifer generated nine points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore Adi Markovich, Junior Matan Zucker, senior Eitan Halpert and graduate student Ethan Lasko all contributed their own accomplishments to the win as well.

The team next faces a national showdown at the Max Stern Athletic Center this Thursday (Dec. 30) as it hosts No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan University for a pivotal NCAA Division III game at 8 pm.
