US Vice President Joe Biden who landed in Israel Tuesday afternoon stepped right into one of the Jewish State’s worst days of bloody attacks that claimed as many as five lives and many more injured. One of the attacks took place at the Jaffa harbor, only a few hundred yards from where Biden and former president Shimon Peres were pressing the flesh at an event at the Peres Peace Center.
Before the attack began, the VP had managed to sneak in a few words about the possibility of a new political process between Israel and the PA. “I hope there will be progress,” he told the audience and the former president. “Israel has a place in my heart.”
Biden stressed that Israel’s friendship with the US is even more important these days, and said that with Peres and Obama “we’ll work to fight terror and achieve peace. That’s our hope, because we and our neighbors have no alternative.”
The two men continued their conversation after both of them had received updates regarding the situation, but security was increased even more than usual for a visit by a dignitary such as the US VP.
