The dreaded "Kinneret Island" which appears when water levels are too low.

Since the start of the latest rainstorm in Israel, which began this past Thursday, the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) has risen 15 centimeters.

It’s still 1.01 meters below the lower red line, and 86 centimeters above the black line (below which it is physically impossible to pump water from the Kinneret, and is believed will cause damage to the lake’s ecological system).

The Kinneret is still 5.21 meters short of the upper red line, the maximum amount the lake can hold.

Minister of Energy Yuval Steinitz said that with this latest rainstorm, Israel received 90% of its normal winter rain, and for now, it appears that the drought is over for this year.

Unfortunately, their still hasn’t been enough rain to refill the Kinneret and it is very likely to drop below the black line this summer.
