There is a well-known saying among professionals who deal with people who are alcoholics or drug addicts; “How can you tell if an addict is lying? Are his lips moving?”
I would like to suggest a different version when it comes to dealing with those who have become addicted to the current outbreak of the world’s oldest hatred: “How can you tell if an antisemite is lying? Are his or her lips moving?”
The degree and seriousness of how badly they are infected can be seen in the level of derangement of their minds. You can gauge how bad their condition is by the preposterousness or downright insanity of the things they say they believe.
From Jews using Christian babies’ blood in their matzos to us controlling the banks and the media and even Jews being shape-shifting lizards, there is simply no craziness or lie that the antisemitic mind won’t embrace.
I always feel sorry for Jews I know and like when I see them trying to disprove or convince people on social media that Israel did not commit genocide in Gaza or starve Palestinian babies. This is a fruitless exercise. There is simply no point at all in trying to offer rational arguments to an irrational mind.
That point was brought home to me many years ago when I was driving with a very close friend to speak at an English university. His name was Ray Hill and he had once been the Deputy Fuhrer of the post WW2, British Nazi Party.
We first met many years before at a university event in Manchester. He was speaking about the Far Right in the U.K.
When he started to free himself from the years of indoctrination he had received as a young man, he took his epiphany to the other extreme. Ray became a “mole” for the British security service MI5 and supplied them with enough information to destroy the BNP for good.
His ex-comrades, furious at his betrayal, tried to assassinate Ray and his family on three separate occasions.
At first, I was more than a little suspicious of this unusual man and his remarkable story. After many years of working together, my doubts disappeared and we became close friends.
Our drive took place just after a terrorist attack by British Muslims in London. I commented to Ray that, “Surely the extreme right couldn’t blame the Jews for this? The Muslim population often hates Jews more than anyone.”
Ray looked at me and asked if I knew the story of “the scorpion and the frog?” I shook my head and he told it to me.
“One day, a scorpion came to a riverbank and wanted to get to the other side. A frog was sticking its head out of the water. The scorpion asked the frog to carry him on his back to the opposite bank. The frog refused stating that the scorpion would sting him and kill him. The scorpion laughed and said, “Don’t be ridiculous. If I sting you, I will drown.” The Frog thought about how that made sense and said, “OK, Jump on.” Halfway across, the scorpion stung the frog.
With his dying breath the frog said, “I don’t understand, now you’ll die too!” The scorpion replied, “I know; but I couldn’t help it. It’s my nature!”
Ray explained that this fable is very popular in Neo-Nazi circles where of course the scorpion represents the Jewish people. “The Jew” he explained, giving me a glimpse into the extreme antisemitic mind, “Cannot help but destroy the people and countries where they live, even if it means that they will be killed too!”
That gave me quite an education in the topic of Jew-hatred. You cannot persuade the mind of a Jew-hater with reason or logic. Jew hatred is impervious to both.
There is another reason that antisemites passionately embrace the most outrageous and obvious falsehoods about us. They do so because they are so obviously false. The bigger the lie and more obnoxious the claim, the better. In making the most revolting accusations they are demonstrating just how much they hate Jews. They are willing to claim anything about them, as long as it is bad. The bigger and nastier the lie is, the more they know it will upset and distress us. That is what makes such lies and such Jew-baiting such fun for our greatest enemies.
Yet, there is a simple rule that applies to accusations made against Jews throughout the centuries. The more a claim about us is groundless and appalling; it is nevertheless usually accurate when it comes to describing the people making the claim! Let’s call this the reflection and projection of evil.
You can test this rule by applying it to any of the accusations made against the State of Israel by the countries of the world and of course the United Nations.
Consider the claim that Israel committed genocide in Gaza. This is easily proven to be a lie to any fair and unbiased mind. It was the Islamo-Nazis of Hamas that committed genocide against the Jews. The Jew-haters reflect and project themselves and what they did on to us.
Then there is the libel that Israeli soldiers sexually assaulted Gazan women. Another lie, but Hamas men did rape Israeli women and videoed and even broadcast themselves doing so.
Consider the calumny that Israeli soldiers intentionally shot at and killed Palestinian children. Hamas-Nazis did kill Jewish children on October 7 and again filmed the horrors.
For the reflection and projection of evil, the Jew-haters need newspapers, TV and radio stations to carry the lies and lend them an illusion of respectability.
The original Nazis began by creating their own newspapers like the Volkischer Beobachter, or Julius Streicher’s Der Sturmer or Goebbels Der Angriff but they could count on the sympathy and support of German mainstream newspapers too and surprisingly many foreign newspapers like the New York-based Associated Press or the Christian Science Monitor.
There are few surprises about who are the accomplices and facilitators of Hamas reflection and projection today. The list is very long and ignoble, CNN, MSNBC, the NYT and many more but increasingly notable voices on the right too, like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens and even the WSJ.
The worst offender in the world though is the one with the biggest reach, the BBC. It reaches an audience of some 450 million people across the world.
The scandal and resulting lawsuit President Trump has unleashed on them for doctoring two of his speeches, has shaken the BBC to its core.
They have shown a teeny amount of regret for what they laughingly called the precise splicing together of two pieces of tape to misrepresent what the President said, “an error.”
They have shown no regret whatsoever about doctoring footage or their coverage of Israel for decades. The BBC has been the most reliable facilitator of the reflection and the projection of evil about Jews, for a very long time.
How can you tell if all of the above news organizations are lying when it comes to Jews? Are their lips moving?
