Biker Cholim is translated as “visiting the sick,” but the group does so much more. The Bikur Cholim system has chapters in most Jewish communities around the world that engage in a wide range of activities that provide comfort and support to people who are ill, homebound, isolated, and/or in distress.
Founded in 1950, Bikur Cholim of Miami Beach has a wheelchair and walker gmach. It provides transportation to doctor appointments, assists in find housing for those who need to be close to a hospital over Shabbos or Yom Yov, helps facilitate meals for Shabbos, offers financial assistance to cover medical bills, arranges for shofar blowing before Rosh Hashanah and megillah reading for Purim, and features a group of adults and children who visit the hospital every Shabbos.
