The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 6-9 had a Change of Watch ceremony and dinner on Monday, January 4, in Miami Lakes. Rabbi Isaac Rosenberg presided over the event and was sworn in for his second term as flotilla commander.
The evening started with the pledge of allegiance, and included an invocation from Rabbi Pinchas Weberman, the introduction of guests, a reading of the flotilla’s accomplishments, and award presentations and swearing-in of officers and new members.
Yitzie, as Rabbi Rosenberg is known to his friends, is an incredible force. Born with a major mobility challenge, he never let himself be slowed down. In fact, others have trouble keeping up with him! He is a role model of tenacity to all.
Rabbi Rosenberg’s flotilla is dedicated to boat safety and rescue on land and sea. He leads as a Coast Guard Cutterman and a licensed pilot. The area of search he is responsible for reaches from Ft. Lauderdale to the Mar Casses Islands of Key West. Twice a month he is stationed at the Coast Guard Air Station. His duties there include responsibility for all aircraft from takeoff to landing. He also sends out calls for facilitating rescue and help.
When out on the cutter, Rabbi Rosenberg will give “Divine Service” and offer moral support. His interaction with the Coast Guard and crew is a very special, a true Kiddush Hashem.
