I haven’t given up on my dream but have accepted that it would be impractical for us at this stage in our lives. I want to add that the hot topic of Yishuv Eretz Yisrael is not all black and white as some would make it seem. There are people who live chutz la’Aretz yet are proponents of making aliyah and people residing in Israel who are against the concept of a Medinas Yisraeli in golus.
The bottom line is that G-d’s plans for us are not always the ones we envision for ourselves. Thank you for providing your readers with a wide range of views that often help us put things in perspective.
Dreaming away
Dear Dreaming,
The sage you visited in Israel may have based his advice on a Gemara that says settling in Eretz Yisrael without the means of sustaining oneself and one’s family can chas v’sholom breed resentment and bitterness toward the Holy Land and Hashem, and one is therefore advised not to make aliyah in such circumstance.
