The letter writer asked us to please print this clarification:

I hope my letter has made people aware that there are more healthy alternatives to treat mental health other than drugging themselves up. Medication is useful as a tool to stabilize someone ill, but it does not address the root of the problem. Just depending on medication alone without trying to improve one’s health is a violation of the Torah. We have an obligation to take care of ourselves and we are obligated to put trust in Hashem and not all of our trust in man. I never said not to use medication. I was on medication for almost 20 years and although it wasn’t clear in the letter, I am still on a very minute dose as maintenance.
