Sarah is the first of the four matriarchs. One can even label her as the “first mother.” She was a pillar of strength for her husband, son, and all of the people she was mikarev to Hashem, according to the Midrash. She was the female leader of our nation. She embodied what it means to be a giver, intuitive, and beautiful inside and out. We look at her and aspire to emulate her ways – the ultimate role model for any Jewish woman.
It is written that her tent always glowed with the glimmer of Shabbos candles and smelled from an intoxicating aroma of fresh challah dough. She taught us that these are special mitzvos for us Jewish women to uphold and cherish. And she was the ultimate Mama Bear, protecting her son, Yitzchok, against any negative influences. This is probably why Avraham kept news of the Akeidah away from her.
I’m proud to say that I have a little of Sarah in me too: Many of you may not be aware that my middle name is Sarah. I just pray that I do her legacy justice and attempt to follow in her ways.
