NOTE: If you’ve never tried whole-wheat flour before, start with only half a cup of whole wheat until your family gets used to the taste and color. Then gradually increase the amount of whole wheat, as you decrease the amount of white flour. The rest of the ingredients remain the same.
When you’re ready for 100% whole wheat, you’ll need to add a little less than ½ cup water to the overall amount in the recipe.
Pizza Bread
There’s nothing like pizza to get the kids excited. This bread, with oregano, basil, and garlic, tastes just like pizza, which they’ll love. The whole-wheat flour makes it a healthier alternative, which you’ll love!
This recipe makes one loaf.
Ingredients
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon honey
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons dried onion flakes
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon oregano
½ teaspoon basil
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Directions
Remove the pan from the bread machine.
In the pan, place the water, oil, honey, whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, onion flakes, salt, garlic powder, oregano, basil, and yeast. Make sure to keep the yeast and salt away from each other (salt retards the yeast’s growth, keeping the bread from rising).
Select the Basic setting and the type of crust you’d like (I prefer medium) and press Start.
Bread is ready at the sound of the beep.
