Author: Rabbi Pinchas WinstonPublisher: Thirtysix.org
Popular speaker and author Rabbi Pinchas Winston has written one of the best books of his career. “Be Positive: It’s More Than Just a Blood Type, it is the Way of Life” is a pocket-book sized paperback with the distilled wisdom of Torah inside. It also defines the purpose of life.
As he states in his forward, Rabbi Winston is revealing God’s key to a successful life: ” we are here to participate in the completion of creation, which translates into helping the world arrive at yemot haMashiach with the least amount of physical and spiritual casualties while working to achieve more of our [spiritual] potential.”
In 12 succinct chapters that quote various Midrash, Toraitic and Kabbalistic verses, the author makes a strong case for living life with joy, explains how to live joyously and describes the benefits of doing so. Tracing the actions and declarations of our ancestors, connecting them to halachic directives and defining the differences between faith (bitachon) and miracles, Rabbi Winston helps his readers to quickly understand hashgacha pratit (God directed developments). By the time you put the book down, you’ve probably re-read some of the fascinating passages several times in order to absorb very empowering information.
Page 127 explains why the world, indeed all of Creation, is “hard-wired for miracles.” Rabbi Winston describes how we can use “momentum” to bring those miracles about. Page 145 highlights the lesson of (Sanhedrin 90a): that the more we invest in the self-sacrifice of mesirat nefesh, the more God reciprocates far beyond our expectations. It puts a softness and new spiritual richness on the face of what we figured we already knew about middah k’neged middah. Heaven’s version of “measure for measure” is based on kindness, or the desire to give.
It’s truly a blessing to own and learn from this book. Buy your copy at book stores or through the publisher, Thirtysix.org, POB 292 Telzstone, Israel 90838.
