During their historic mission, Stibbe and the three other members of the Ax-1 crew conducted experiments for more than 25 research projects with international partners, including the Ramon Foundation, the Mayo Clinic and the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

The chickpeas will be part of a project called “Space Hummus,” which will test hydroponic techniques for plant growth in zero gravity.

Herzog gave Stibbe a special gift: a glass cube inscribed with the Prayer for the Welfare of the State of Israel in the handwriting of its author, the President’s grandfather, Israel’s first chief rabbi, Yitzhak Isaac HaLevi Herzog.

In early 2022, the second Israeli astronaut, Eytan Stibbe, will cross the atmosphere on his way to the International Space Station.
