Seven people, including a rabbi, were arrested this past week in an alleged $14 million scam involving a federal school technology program funded by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), according to the Rockland County Times. Six of the seven were residents of Ramapo.

The funds were to be allocated to pay for consultants, vendors and services as well as to purchase video conferencing equipment for yeshivas in New York’s Rockland County for an E-Rate program. The funded services allegedly never took place.

The scam, which took place from 2010 to 2016, allegedly included the purchase of more than half a million dollars in video conferencing equipment for a day care center. The accused were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
