Rabbi Moshe Tzedakah, rosh yeshiva of Porat Yosef in the Old City of Jerusalem, said Monday that individuals who intentionally went to see Pope Francis during his visit to Israel had become “tamei,” or ritually impure.

According to the shteible.net website, the rabbi ruled that anyone who saw the pope’s face must bathe in a mikveh (ritual bath).
