Prisoner Release Prohibition Law Passes

By Jewish Press News Desk

The Prisoner Release Prohibition law, introduced by Ayelet Shaked (Bayit Yehudi) and David Tzur (Hatnua) passed its second and third readings on Sunday.

The law allows judges to impose an additional restriction on terrorist's jail sentences, such that terrorists can not be released from jail in prisoner trades with the Palestinian Authority before having served their complete sentences. Terrorists will need to serve 40 years, before parole can even be considered.

The bill, which morally shouldn't even be necessary, prevents the government from releasing terrorists as part of the diplomatic process.

The bill only applies to future sentencing and not to terrorists currently in prison.

There is also no guarantee that the judges will actually use the law when sentencing terrorists.

A few months ago, a law was passed that prevented the President from giving pardons to terrorists as part of a political agreement. Another law that morally shouldn't be needed, but is.
